Kestrel pre-insulated panels reduce construction times and control waste
Kestrel Timber Frame has introduced a range of pre-insulated panels designed to significantly reduce construction times on developments using timber fame construction techniques.
Timber frames made from pre-insulated panels help to reduce construction costs and maintain quality while meeting stringent sustainability requirements. They also help to reduce waste. The new panels are insulated as they are built in the factory, making them easier to install on site.
As each panel is built it is fitted with rigid insulation which has a lower U-value – the rate at which heat passes through the panel – than the flexible type of insulation which is normally fitted after the building has been constructed. The lower the U-value is, the greater the energy efficiency of the panel.
In addition, factory fitting means that the insulation can be cut and installed to minimize the amount of waste created.
The new panels are being used on The Meadows, a Larkfleet Homes (www.larkfleethomes.co.uk) development located off the High Street in Eye near Peterborough. The site is a mixed development of properties for sale on the private market and for local social landlords.
Larkfleet has been able to construct the development in a fraction of the time required by conventional construction techniques making significant cost savings. Handover of the site should be ahead of schedule as a result.
Jamie Gilligan of Kestrel said: “By using our pre insulated panels in its timber frames Larkfleet is able to control its costs, reduce the amount of on site waste and reduce the amount of time it will take to construct the new buildings.
“In addition, Larkfleet Homes is able to build the development to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The high environmental building standards highlight Larkfleet Homes’ commitment to creating affordable, well-built and energy-efficient homes. The timber for the homes is sourced from sustainable forests.”
